Foam in old MXR pedals.

I scored a nice blue boxed MXR 10 band graphic EQ today.  I cracked open the cse when I got home and seems I might be the first one to open it up.  The foam in the inside of the back plate is really nasty and starting to crumble.  Anyone know of a source where I can get similar foam?  I have a couple more old MXR boxes that need the same.  Would also like to get some of the foam/rubber for the backs of the pedals also.

Thanks.

I have three old mxr pedals and the foam in all of them has completely disintegrated.
It makes such an awful mess. I cleaned as much of that shit out as i could, but i still havent replaced it with anything yet.

I've been known to use 3M Scotchbrite scouring pads to hold stuff in place in lieu of foam, but I don't think it's a very good long term solution (it disintegrates as well). At least it's readily available, and holds well. If you ever plan on having a velcro based pedalboard, don't put that (damn) foam on the back of your pedals! Once aged, that stuff is a bear to get off.

I buy this stuff from a local craft store that is about an 1/8" thick and comes in many colors it is a spongy foam type stuff.  It works great for putting on the back of circuit boards etc.  I used it to replace the foam on my Script P90.

I use old mouse pads.  Cut them up to the size you need and they work real well.......

If you go to a place that sells carpeting, the cheapest kind of foam underlay they sell is a dead ringer for what MXR used to stick in their boxes.  I also find some computer components like mobos come with nonconductive greyish foam sheets to keep sharp component leads and headers from poking the fingers of consumers.

When I first opened my block Phase 90, I looked around for anything handy--and spotted a pair of Hanes briefs that had outlived its undergarment usefulness.  I just cut out a big enough piece to wrap the circuit board, and I haven't had a problem since.  I don't think that I want to put any more foam in there, considering what a mess the original made.

Hey Thanks guys!!!!  I think I will either go the mouse pad or anti static foam route.

Whether it goes on the component or the copper side, just make absolutely sure it isn't conductive.

If you can, try to find vintage foam. I find the new foam muffles the sound too much.

Underwear MOJO. Thats a new one...guess I could chime in...I used mousepads and then I also bought some placemats from a garage sale that I cut up. Placemats are nice and thin if you need it.
