Can anyone help me out here? Even *gasp* mouser doesn't have one of these...I've been looking for about an hour.

that's what happens when I'm a noob  :icon_redface:

Never heard of smallbear...but in my poor defense, I did check futurlec, digikey, and mouser....and digikey and mouser I went through like 40 pages in each of their catalogs.

Thanks for solving my stupid problems.

It's worth noting that 1uF 16V is hard to find - but that the ultra-common 1uF 50V will work fine there.

It's generally OK to go up in voltage with capacitors. They'll withstand more voltage, which is OK.

There are some fine points where it's not as good to go up in voltage, but those are refinements you won't run into for quite a while.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

A wise person once said (to paraphrase): "the only stupid question is the one that goes un-asked". That being said, all of my posts have been stupid questions.
I have seen lots of the 1uf 16v caps-usually after I pull them from commercial pedals. If I had known they were so hard to find I would have kept them and put them up on ebay.  :D

NB:

In ALMOST every case, an item on my stock list is what the description says it is. In the case of that 1 mf. 16 volt cap, however, it is actually a 50 volt part. For consistency and convenience, I buy all the values from the same supplier, and Xicon doesn't make a 1 mf. 16 volt. I left it with the 16 volt types on the list, knowing (as others have pointed out) that it will work fine in pedals.

I was wondering about that when I checked a bunch of major parts suppliers...I thought, 'hey, maybe 16V, 35V, etc. is the same as 1/4w, 1/2w, etc. on resistors...)

But this being my first build, and me being on a limited budget, I didn't feel like blowing a bunch of components.

Thanks again all for the help.

I'm interested in the fine points....I have noticed some subtle differences in say 220 uf 50V compared to 220uf 10V.  In particular, there seems to be a difference in how quickly the discharge/charge happens.

Am I on track with this?  Where can I find out more?
