Hello. I just finished building the Jen HF Mod available at www.generalguitargadgets.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=62&Itemid=186, i did the circuit using CBE, 2n3904 transistors.

The circuit works fine in bypass, but with the effect turned on, the led light is bright, but no sound in amp. The battery is new, and unfortunately i dont have a voltmetre or similar device.

The only mods or subs i made were replacing capacitor C8, 0.047uf with 0.056uF. I also left out the dc jack, with the red lead of the battery connected to R17 & R4 and the black lead to the input. Also, by mistake, is installed tantulum(i think) capacitors in positions C3 C5 C6 C7.

Would leaving out the dc jack, and not having the jack connected into ground deaden the circuit? if it would, how do i power the board without the jack?

Possibly if somehow the circuit was not getting power. You really do need a multimeter to do this hobby. It's very difficult to figure things out without one.

I suppose you could build an audio probe (see my debugging page) and listen at C1, C3, C5 and C8 on the circuit.
