I just went to a local electronics store looking for some 24 gauge stranded wire, so I can finish up my BSIAB II tonight. At first, the owner said he didn't have any, but after a few minutes in the back, he came out with a big eight foot insulated cable. He cut it open with a razor blade, and there were 16 individual lengths of wire inside, and each one was a different color! I asked him how much he wanted for the lot, and he said, I don't know... $2? So, I just got 128 feet of multicolored 24 gauge stranded wire for $2! It seems to be good quality too. Best of all, he told me I could come back anytime for more. Sorry for the silly post, but I just had to share my excitement.

I did the same thing when I was first sourcing parts. I still have some orange, brown, green and red with white spots and black spots in my stash. Nice stuff, but I usually use the wire from Steve at Smallbear for the bulk of my projects.

:-D

all my hookup wire comes from monitors or power supplies :-D

The cable from a monitor has some neato coax shileded stuff - 3 thick ones (RGB) then a couple of other wires.

I scored a few yards of 40 conductor wire telephone cable from
a skip last night on the way to my night job.
It's solid core so you can only use it for links & jumpers
& places where it will never flex. Different stripes &
colors, useful for prototyping.
