I just saw this today while surfing for fuzz pedals:

Phillip, your pedals look great and I love the sound of my MindBender/Blue Dust NPN MKII ToneBender clone.  How someone could part with a pedal like that is beyond me.  It'll be interesting to see what it goes for...

That one has traded hands a couple of times...that one was actually the first Axis Face that I sold to anyone.  However, it doesn't contain the same tweaks as the latest version of the Axis Face (Revision 3) that the text (which he copied directly from my website) suggests.

That one has a trimmer on the circuit board on the input (which is now the panel-mounted "Smooth" control on the Revision 3).  The "Bias" control is similar to the "Sun Dial" on the Sun Face.  It has a pair of high-gain BC109C transistors instead of the lower gain Silicon transistors.

That one has a 2.2uF input capacitor and 22uF capacitor on the wiper of the "Attack" pot...the only other capacitor on that one that's on the Revision 3 is the 100pF across the base-collector of Q2.

If anyone here wants to buy it, I'll retrofit the pedal with a new circuit board that will bring it up to Revision 3 standards for $20 or so.  I'm almost tempted to buy it myself and upgrade it so it'll find a permanent home and stop changing hands! ;)

That's funny!  It's kinda cool to see your stuff resurface isn't it?  It's like finding a story about one of your kids on the web.

BTW Phillip, that NPN MKII clone that you sold me the board for turned out killer.  I tech for Tim Smith with Sheryl Crow and I stuck it on his pedal board for him to play with at our last gig.  He's loving it, it's very Page-ish which works great for some of her songs.  Incidentally, Aron just happened to be playing a gig at that same venue in Honolulu and it was great to finally meet him.  It's a small world...

Yep it is interesting seeing the pedals turn up...I just wish that Axis Face could find a happy home ;)

I'm glad to hear that the circuit board made a killer pedal!  What transistors did you end up using in it?  Also, did you use the "smooth" control?

I used some OC140's and I did use the 'smooth' control.  It all fit nicely into a 1590B and sounds great.  The smooth control isn't too crazy.  It kinda dials in between a tighter, more trebly tone and a squishier, more bassy tone but it's not too over the top at either extreme.  It cleans up OK with the volume knob but that's not really how I'd use it much.  It sounds best when set to stun, especially when you're wearing the 'dragon' pants!

I put in a bid on the Axis Fuzz on ebay.  A 10 day auction seems like overkill to me though.  BTW, Phillip, I built the Axis Face Si Rev. 3 from your site and it sounds killer!!  I have to build a buffer now for my wah so they will play together.   8)   I'm trying to find a source for the NPN Germ Trannys for the Ge version of the pedal though.  Any tips on a source for them?

Thanks,

Andy

Try the 'For Sale/Trade' forum.  Rick is selling some there.  Should be within the first few posts.
