Transparent Buffer?

Hey guys!  I was wondering if there is a buffer circuit that sticks out as more transparent than most?  Or are they all pretty much equal?  Thanks!

The AMZ MOSFET Booster was designed to be a transparent boost.  It's very popular for this purpose.

Single  device "buffers", whether bipolar, jfet or mosfet, are inevitably going to have some coloration of their own.

It's remarkably difficult to make a buffer more transparent  than a JFET input opamp set up as a non-inverting gain stage as long as you never make it exceed its power supply limits. Within its limits an opamp buffer is about as non-distorting as you can make a buffer.

MOSFET buffers are popular because they have quite high input impedances and so have very little treble loss - which may or may not be something to try for.

I personally think that they're more translucent buffers than transparent buffers.  :)

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

 As in "semi-transparent?"

Yeah, what RG said.

And if you use film coupling caps, a higher supply voltage, and a high performance op amp (say OP275 or OPA2134) the more neutral or "transparent"  a sound you'll get.

The closer it is to unity gain, the greater the likelihood of it remaining "transparent" in the face of any signal you throw at it.

OK.  I sit corrected.   NeveSSL wants a buffer, not a booster.

Hey guys!  Thanks for the replies.  I will check out the AMZ.

Does anyone know what type of buffer the Axess Electronics is?

Thanks again for the info!

As far as unity gain buffer circuits go it doesn't get much simpler than this:

You didn't specify what you need it for, so it might just be the ticket.

It does if you use a single op-amp (non-inverting)...no resistor!

If it's a buffer it assumes that there's a stage prior to it, in which case it provides bias if DC coupled.  I used to do this with CA3080s.

I was making assumptions though (original post wasn't specific having said that).

I build this http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/pdf/ggg_ic_buffer.pdf and I found it quite transparant..... I never heard any signal changes while using it unit I turn it off and my long true bypass chain begins to act.

Oh, and I did not add the LED..... so mine is much more sinplistic that this one. I found it. I build this http://www.singlecoil.com/tb-strip/buffer.pdf

i've got a transparent aluminum case for the transparent buffer.
thanx Scottie!!
Trouble is....i can't find it.....
