Hi, everyone! :D
I making JCM800 Emulator(by electrictabs).
I can't find J201 JFET in my country.
But..
I can find "2N5458, 2N5088, 2N5089".

Q1. What TR recommended for JCM800 emul?
Q2. Can I use 2N5089?
Q3. Can you explain sound character of "2N5458, 2N5088, 2N5089" me please?

thanks*

A good replacement for the J201 is the 2N5457 - similar gain but can sound a bit "harder" it does this in a BSAIB II quite well
MPF102 is also J-fet but with less gain ....
5088 and 5089 are standard "N" channel NPN transistors, not J-fets :D

Regards and good luck with the build,

Marty.

Thanks Marty!
then..
I Cannot use 2n5089 ?

No. I'm not familiar with the schemo but if it calls for J201's they are JFETS & you can't just put a BJT(2N5089) in it's place.  :) However, you can try subbing different JFETS & see what the results are & if you like it. :)

MPF102's ,,,lighter soudning, less gain
J201...good gain sound on this one
NTE458 might be too high gain
These Jfets vary from one to the next of the same type anyway, subbing them around in the circuit can change the way it works.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Thanks Mark F and petemoore!
