I bought a black russian big muff this weekend and want to modd it to triangle muff specs. I looks at tonepads layout on the green russian and there seems to be a lot of differences- and a lot of similarities. Anyone got this? Is this mod doable? Or should i just perf my own triangle bigmuff to replace the stck black one? Is there a big difference between the muffs?

there are 4 big muff pi's s far as i can see. the stock-the triangle- the green russian-the black russian.

Don't forget the opamp versions.
I built a PNP version of the triangle drawn by aron (thanks aron). It was a PITA to power (pos ground) so I switched the trannies to NPN (I used NP caps) and it works fine and sounds great. EH and the BMP in particular seem to have suffered from the "what components are on sale?" syndrome, with perhaps ironically the russians having the most consistent values. (just my limited experience mind you)
If it where me, I'd perf up a new board of your chosen poison. That way it'll be easier to tweak, and if you break it you still have the original. I can hear the difference between my version and a friends green CCCP special, but its not a huge difference to my ears.
Shoot straight you bastards. Don't make a mess of it. -Last words of Breaker Morant

Pre-1991 Russian muffs should have completely equal component values. :P

sorry, that was deadpanning...
(edit... before that's taken seriously, it's a joke. components will vary somewhat in bmp's)

As octafish said, there were tons of variations in parts from model to model, which is why with the BMP especially people will recommend you personally try out the one you're going to buy.

There are enough similarities that you should be able to make the change on the original board, but like octafish, I would make my own board, A/B them, and . That of course depends if you have enough spare parts, but the BMP circuit is simple enough to make from scratch almost as quickly as it would take to identify the necessary component changes and swap all the parts.

good luck!

i think i will leave the board alone and just build a triagle but house it in the new black russian box- i bought i new this week but broken( a input jack broken) for 23.00- ive had better deals but not bad considering it now works - looks new- and a 3pdt switch!

thanks all!
