I've wired up a small fan to cool my Classic 30 by connecting the red and black wires of the fan to a dc jack and plugging the adaptor into the same power strip for the amp. Works fine.
Is there a way to put an on/off switch between the jack and fan? What type of switch can be used and how to wire it?

Is this a mains voltage fan your talking about? What exactly is the kind of connector you're using?

if you are sure the set up is safe, then you can add a switch in the normal way, just buy a in-line light-switch from a diy shop...

incidentally standard fut switches are rated up to 250v AC so will be safe, if you want to stomp on and off... just wire it up normally and put it in a case.

The fan is a 12 VDC 3-1/8" x 1" . Here's a link to it:

I connected it to a 9V adapter via a dc jack. It's totally seperate from the amp's power.

I had thought about the light switch but was unsure how to hook it up since the fan had two wires (pos and neg) and it looked like the in-line light switch only had hookup for one wire each way.

you can put a SPST switch in-line (series) with either wire.  The switch will break the connection when in the off position, and make the connection when in the on position.

you could get crazy and set up a thermistor controlled fan, so it came on and off automatically at a pre-set temperature... :)
