The two tranny Tonebender on Green-Fuz website says the level is a 50K pot but on RG Keens schematic he has a 500K pot for level.  What is the real deal fellers?  I ask because I am going to build this circuit in the next couple of weeks.  Headed down to the antique & vintage electronic supply place in Tacoma today to pick up all my parts for the MK II Pro and the two tranny Tonebender minus the trannys cause I already got them.

thanks

Try 'em both out and let us know what you think   pots arent that expensive :)  I believe the bigger the pot the bigger the output....

On the Obsidian and the Guv'nor they use 100K pots.....

Sorry I cant be more helpfulll! :)

From what I understand these vol pot changes alter the output impedance when you adjust them or replace them with a different value.
 Either value should work.
The reason I posted the subject as a question is> I'm just 'figgerin' ...so feel free to correct or confirm thise 'theories'...I've been pondering these issues

Colorsound, Vox, Two knob, Three knob, Reissue - baah,  there's too many, which one!!!!!

I don't know the real answer.

I believe the *VOX* two knob (two transistor) has a 3n3 cap going to a 47k (or 50k) log pot - in addition to that apparently some units had a 47k resistor across the pot.  I think Phillip Bryant's fuzz central site shows this, and I know ammscray verified at least one form of this schematic.  I've seen one other schematic with 47k and no parallel 47k.

Now did the units with the added resistor use 500k pots (as shown on RG's schem)?  Technically that would make sense since it makes the 500k pot behave sort of like the 47k pot.  I can only speculate.  In my mind the jury is out on the units with the added resistor.

According to the water analogy of electricity, transistor leakage is caused by holes.

Assuming we're talking about the Italian Tone Benders, all the ones I've seen had a 50K volume pot, a 4n7 output cap, a 0.15 input cap, and either a 15 or 22 fuzz cap. Disclaimer: this information comes from a small sample - since I'm not a dealer or hardcore collector there could well be variations I'm not aware of.

I have a very distinct feeling the one Jimmy Page used was an English one based on the sound of OC81D trannys as described on some of the pages around here.  I mean Roger Mayer said he built Pages fuzz pedal and it was based on a Maestro Fuzztone which also has three trannys.  I really think of it this way.  I think all Roger Mayer did was probably bias the thing and tune it up.  I think the man is pulling some legs about just how much work he put into these pedals for the stars.  I ain't buying it.  Not after I have read some more info from you guys and the websites around here.  I feel pretty safe saying he probably just biased it and got her running according to specs.  I've read you guys many times saying that they didn't do much testing of those pedals back then.  They were just building them and sending them out the door and the sounds and circuit quality varied wide.  This is what you guys have told me all along.  No two pedals are alike from the factory.  So I have OC81D trannys so I am looking for the most accurate English version.  I will find out soon. I have a Supro Thunderbolt and a Supro 1606 With a seperate 1x12 cab with a  green back  in her and both are ready to chew on the MKII pro pedal I'm making.

Hello Hello-
The original two-tranny Vox Tonebender had a 50k volume [level] pot with a 47k res. across the two outer lugs.  The real early ones used OC 76
trannys.  It also had a .0033 output cap. [and a .22 input cap].
Brian.

All the Vox TB's I've seen (all germ models) had the 50K Icar pot (except one, see below), and some had the 47K resistor (effectively making it a 25K pot, adding more rasp) , and some didn't...

but R.G. was probably right when he said the one he examined had a 500K pot because that was a much later silicon version...you don't see too many (thankfully!) but I wouldn't be surprised if it had that value in it...

Increasing the vol pot value doesn't just give the sound more gain, also more bass and decreases the rasp content...and IMO 100K's the limit with TB's, actually with my own FF's too...500K, too muddy...

I actually came across a stock Vox black TB a few months ago with a factory 1.5M vol pot in it! I couldn't believe it but the sound was so woofy I couldn't suspect anything else...it was an Icar and had never been touched...I put a 100K cheater resistor across it and brought it down to around 75K and it sounds just like it should now...:)
