Just finished wiring her and when i powered up i get these problems:

1. Ticking or thumping.
2. Speed knob works but depth does not seem to do anything
3. All LEDs stay lit and pulsing when i turn effect off  although my on/off LED works fine.  Using a battery
4. The Trimpot seems to do nothing

On a positive all LEDS seem to light up and pulse with the speed knob setting. There is an effect  on both sides of the switch  (Chorus/Vibrato) although i am not sure which is which as it is hard to get past the thumping noise

I am using all Tl062s and Small red LEDS and Clairex Photocells . I do NOT have them heat shrunk as of yet .

Any Thoughts what to check first?
Thanks!

QuoteAny Thoughts what to check first?
The things to check never vary.
(a) if you don't get any sound through it, check voltages to tell you which part is not functioning; when you can get it to pass audio:
(b) if it works but is garbled somehow, look for:
- miswiring
- solder shorts or opens
- components in the wrong place
- wrong component values

You're already at (b), and what you describe is a bleedover of the LFO into the audio path. You have some kind of miswiring that's letting that happen.

With the LDRs exposed to the ambient room light, you'll get not much if any effect because the room light swamps whatever is happening on the LED.

It would help a lot of you'd answer some of the questions in "What to do when it doesn't work" up at the top of the page - which schematic, which layout, any mods, any parts substitutions, battery voltage, etc.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Thanks RG .I'll take a closer look tomorrow after i rest my eyes a bit and report back. As far as the layout i am using a PCB  and the Layout from GEO . There are no MODs , substitutions and the only deviation is that i wired a 3DPT  instead of a DPDT and a Millenium.
