NPN boost or lpb2 as a simple booster?

Well I tried my Rangemaster clone with the OC45 yesterday and obviously it doesn't have enough gain....so I'm left with an already drilled Hammond box .........

I have decided to go for either of these boosts as they are simple and both seem to have good reviews. I'm leaving the 2PDT switch for switching between 2 input cap values, but the rest will remain the same.

Which one should I build first?

I'll give two thumbs up for the LPB. I've built several and had very good luck with them. But, what, exactly, are you looking for? What type of amp are you running into?

I just built an LPB Last night, nice pure tone to it too. !!
\  I raised the input impedance a bit, and it 'feel's like it has more high end than the stock one.
They put those 'funny' [values I don't have'] resistor values, i just look at the 'ratio' and mimic that with different values ITC larger ones.
20 or so minutes = Nice Booster.
All these things "Distort', even a guitar cable 'distorts'...I used a 2n5088 and metal film caps.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

I have gone for the LPB2. Nice sound, but the one I have built has just some boost (let's say 50% more above the dry signal), by any means is an overwhelming boost. It boosts lows and mids mostly. Sounds to me like a "fat" boost. It's OK, only that I I was wrong expecting a huge wall of sound

For me the trick about boosters is to crank the amp up to a reasonable volume and it get it on the verge of breakup or into real light breakup. Then I use the booster to push it over the top. The Rangemaster and NPN Boost both sound good to me. I will have to try the LPB1 some time.
