Does anyone here have a dunlop fuzz face re-issue eh?

I've had a couple of em.  I allways changed the Crappy germs for silicons transistors.

However, i can't for the life of me, remember if the transistors were PNP or NPN, man.

Anyhoo; a little off topic, but not really....

My fuzz-face mods are awesome.  If anyone want to try em:

-Upgrade resistors to "classic fuzz mod"
-Add silicon diode clipping circuit
-Replace input cap with 1.0
-Add the "Fuzz-boost mod" from the dragonfly mods page (under the strip board projects)
-Replace transistors with silicons
-Add the fameous "Trauma control"
-Volume pot= 1 meg
-Fuzz pot= 10K to 20K (i got away with using a 20 or 20K pot that i gots from a vintage morley distortion pedal. rare eh?)

REALLY wicked mod:

-Replace the volume control with an LPB-2 booster circuit, also i supose you could use a trebble booster circuit as well, never tried it though....

i have a JD-F2 dunlop fuzz.  It is germanium, (red round cased one).

it totally sucks, but i replaced the trannys with Small Bear matched trannys, biased it. and changed the input cap to .1

it still sucks though.

it is PNP

would you be interested in getting rid of it eh?  E-mail me, or PM me if so....

sorry, but i am going to chuck the circuit board and pots and jacks in the woods, and use the enclosure and for an Axis Face.

thanks, guys.

Good article by the way, interesting.....

hey Yun,
i have the round red dunlop fuzzface, JD-F2, is that the same as yours?

i think i accidentally changed my output cap instead of input cap to .1uF

Is the input cap labeled C1  ?      If it is then, mine is a poalrized electro cap, Was yours polarized?  Also, do i have to replace it with a polarized?
Did you leave the output cap stock?  mine is changed to .1uF mylar.

thanks.

I got it biased with alot of fuzz and sustain ,but it doesn't clean up to well.
It gets muddy when cleaned up.  My guitar cleans up very well with my RM clone, and i also have a resistor and cap soldered to my volume pot on guitar to stop loss of highs when rolled down.
I biased my transistors which are Ge's from small bear, with the 8.2k resistor at around 18k and the other i am not sure since i have pots hooked up to all biasing resistors.

thanks  again

Yeah, that's the kind i HAD, Marcos_munkey has mines now   .  i have had at least 4 of em at 1 time before.  i'm in a "travelin' band"  So i like to stock up whenever i can....

Yes it was polarized, man.  i got away with using a non-polarized 1.0uf cap.  I commonly will "do without polarization" in pedals.  Unless it's absolutely needed, you know?

you can also use a non polarized .047uf cap which sounds the best in my opinion.

I remember C1 being the Input cap, though....
