I'm going to be making a Marshall Guv'Nor over the next few weeks, but some of the components have proved a little hard to find. Here is the Bill Of Materials for The Guv'Nor.

Can I find all of this stuff at Small Bear Electronics? It's just some of the things in the BoM might be under different names or something, for example I couldn't find the 100k Log Audio Pots.

TIA,
James.

Did you see some shown as '100K A'.
I'm PD Certain Steve has stocked 100k volume pots.

Well I didn't see the word Log anywhere, so I wasn't sure.

I built this one a year ago- it rocks! Parts are all common. Alot of the time different value pots will work ( some will work better than others and more ideal. ) Do like EH and use what you got.
good luck. IF your not sure about Smallbear than email him. Hed be glad to answer any questions. Great service ect..!!!

Yep, for Alpha pots... 100KA == 100K audio == 100k Log

I built one of these too. If you like modding things build 2 because the original rocks, but you can make the Guv'nor into a lot of different things.

This is one of those effects where it is kind of in a class by itself - like the Tube Screemer, BSIAB2 or a Tube Driver are kind of a classes of overdrive/dist. pedals.

If you love that cranked Marshall sound - the Guv'nor is well worth your time. Let me know once you have it built if you want info on some mods.

Cheers, just what I was looking for. ;)

That would be great, I may consider making two, but will probably just mod the original if I'm not as happy with it.

How can I tell if the Capacitors on SmallBear are Ceramic? They don't say...

petemoore

Choose poly or metal film types?

On the BoM, it says Ceramic for a couple of Capacitors, and Film for a couple others...So they must be different. you can check to BoM on my first post at the top. Cheers.

I dont think steve sells ceramics.  Not too common for stompers.  You're in the UK?  RS or Maplin should have them, as radio shack has some.  OR strip them from something - they're damn common components in all sorts of devices...OR use mica caps?  Can somebody confirm that this would be ok.

Honestly, I think the type of cap matters very little.  However, I have experianced different tonalities with ceramics in some circuits.  Never built this one, though.

Higgie

Thanks for the info, Mate.

Ok. I just bought an Original Guv'Nor. LOL.

I still may go ahead and build my own. Just for the fun of it.
