I saw a link to this over at Group DIY, it was designed to cost no more than US$20, which may keep some folks happy.

Nice little design.  Looks like it should be very clean sounding.

..not completely unlike my very own LA-light...if I may say so myself...
a transistor/FET version of the LA2a-consept?..( I used op-amps)  gain reduction resistor/LDR network at the input and G.R. amp/sidechain separated from the gainrecovery amp, making it possible to completely prevent  any overload/clipping ( just like in the LA-light too )

Yes, very nice, and the BOM with part numbers makes it hard to resist!  :D Thanks, Stephen.

BTW, thanks for the LA Light,  Johan - I don't know why, but the idea of a completely separate sidechain hadn't occurred to me until I saw yours. It opens up loads of possiibilities.
