Had all the parts so i decided to build a couple of TB based on the Vox tonebender schem at fuzz central.

My mate who usually etches my boards is on holiday so i used perf board for these, got the slopped enclosure from mouser, it was quite flimsy, when you stomped on it, the top would slip off the two pads it sat on so i sorted that out with a couple of nut and bolts, i used 2 matched AC128 from banzai ive heard better but its a keeper.

the other one i built in an enclosure thats a bit bigger than the 1590B they're EVATRON enclosures which i got on ebay (15 for £20), this one uses AC176 NPN Ge, ive got a bundle of them and the first two i put in worked prefectly, From all the TB and FF ive built ive noticed the tonebender IMO is not as pickey about transistor selection as the fuzz face. I made it a bit more boutique by using way huge style knobs and added a 9v dc power jack.

Heres a pic of the guts.

The carbon comp resistors werent intentionally used for mojo, ive just got a sh*t load of 'em, a mate gave me them and a load of old caps, transistor and other odds n sods when his dad sadly passed away a few years ago. I will probably change the electro cap in the slopped enclosure TB due to age/deterioration when i next order some parts.

Does anyone have or know where to look for some SFT337?

AFAIK the SFT337 can be replaced by, AC125/126/151 . The SFT363e by AC127/176/187.

Finally Gold. I like to see that color as often as possible.

I probably will have to use a sub cos ive been looking for this transistor for a while, OC76 were used and should be easier to find

The SFT337 in mine is Q2 instead of Q1 as in other schem ive seen.

AC176 is NPN thats what ive used in the little TB above

Wow, that's a good price on the enclosures! Nice work.  8)

Very handsome builds LH.  Is mouser pretty reasonable on shipping costs to the UK?

leonhendrix

The postage usually ranges from $6-$12 depending on the size of the order(usually depending on the amount of enclosures), Mouser usually has everything i need at a good price and at good quailty but i do order from a number of places like rapidelectronics, maplin, banzai, bowood etc.
