what's the best taper for a Gain pot? I'm building a MOS-FET Boost. This and a lot of the JFET boosters all have a similar arrangment for the GAIN pot. Can anyone recommend a tapper that works well for this? I'm planning on ordering a few parts and and thought I'd get some advice.

if its gain like distortion, I like linear taper. If its "gain" like volume, I prefer Audio taper. Some people will disagree over which of the 2 to use for distortion gain, its a preference.

Linear increases resistance at a steady rate, audio taper, because of how our ears hear sound, increase at a log rate.

Choice of taper will always depend on what portion of the range is most important to you.  When it comes to gain, some folks could care less about lower gain differences, and want the most selectivity at highestgain settings.  Others, however, might want more ability to dial in slight variations in low gain.  These two scenarios would call for either different tapers, or the same taper pot but wired in reverse.
