Hi there,

Just two simple question about keeleys SEM.

After drilling a hole for the red led, how is it secured  such that it stays in the "O" letter?

The volume is a bit too loud after changing to the LED. How do I mod the level control such that it has a greater range from soft to loud?

Thanks.

I used a glue gun to keep the LED in ...

Although my mod is quite a bit different from the Keely I liked "seeing" the distortion so I borrowed the concept. :)

As far as the volume is concerned, I'm not sure. Using an LED to clip gives less distortion and more output. I like this because I use the DS-1 as a solo pedal with the volume cranked. It gives me the boost I need  above my rhythm sound....

I'm assuming you can still turn it down ??? It should turn all the way down.

Hey Melanhead,

I'm embaressed to say I dont really know what a glue gun is :). But i'll take it I can basically use some glue.

Anyone tried plasticine or silicone or something? Or is there some plastic holder or something keeley uses?

As for volume, at 9 o'clock with the LED, it sounds as loud as 10.30 before the mod. I was hoping to have the same range as before so that it is easier to dial it in at lower volumes.

Volume cranked?! That must be loud!

Cheers!

I also used a hot melt glue gun, similar to this one:

The tip gets hot enough to melt the stick of glue, which is pushed through the opening when you squeeze the trigger.

I suppose most any kind of glue would work, as long as it's not too runny or messy.

This is a neat mod sonically, and I also really enjoy the neat effect of being able to see a visual response to my picking.

How would I go about getting more volume from a semi Keeley SEM modded pedal without adding leds in the clipping section? I like the mods I have done to another pedal much better then the Keeley mod, but it has the lack of volume of a stock pedal. I have the volume floored just to get unity gain out of it.

Yup ... see above picture for gluegun ... They're pretty cheap and can be used for lots of things :) ...

.... and yes the volume IS loud but with 2 guitarist in the band I need the level boost to be heard when I'm rippin' :D ...
