How many of you build amps as well?

I've built a few 386 based SS amps.  I think I will build a low wattage tube amp at some point in the future, despite the fact I already have a Nano Head and I'm unlikely to produce anything that sounds nearly as good.  :D

QuoteSo, you build the "Kenny Burrell" amp! that's top of the notch, way to go!

That's one of mine.  I actually just did some updates on it to show at NAMM next weekend.  What's funny is you always see guys trying to make tube like circuits into pedals, but I actually ganked a pedals tone knob for the new reverb circuit!  It now has a 3 knob verb (dwell/tone/level), but I always hated the tone knob used in the stand alone units, so I added a buffer and changed the tone knob out for a big muff style one!  It worked out so well I makes me want to do some classic amps like a tweed deluxe, but try this control.

Hi.
First I built a Firefly.
It was a good learning experience, but you can't expect much oomph from it.
Then I built an 18 watter (a lite IIb) from 18 watt.com - an excellent amp that gets quite dirty at mid output levels (10 watts).
It is an simple, elegant design and there's lots of technical help (almost too many opinions, maybe?).
have fun

If ur goin for a really low wattage amp, i would recommend taking a look a the excellent designs at www.sopht.ca
I recently completed the 12AL8 model, it great for beginners as its low wattage and low voltage 12V, so no scary B+ values, great sound. I believe there a new 30V version now...
other than that i would also recommend the Firefly as a first high voltage, low power build.
Hav fun... amp building can be very satisfying.

I build tube-amps as well (or even better:icon_biggrin:).
A "tone control" of this combo amp designed in 1971/-2 now serves as "filter engine" in the E-H Tube Zipper and Hot Tubes.
Some smaller "heads" with built-in effects, too.
More to come---

Actually, I might consider the High Octane as well since it has a bit more wattage 5-7 W and has a few mods such that different output tubes can be selected (I've always wanted an EL34 amp).  There is also an additional output mod to get it down to 1W for late nights when the kids are sleeping.  I'm sure it will end up just like my pedal-building experience..... I'll just build them all!!!
builds completed: boutique fuzz, rangemaster, BSIAB2, PT-80, Tonepad wah, Ross Comp, Axis Fuzz, MOSFET boost, Thunderchief, Big Muff (triangle), Mr. EQ, Dr. Boogey,  Neovibe, Dist+, EA Tremelo, ADA Flanger, RM Octavia

I actually started building tube amps prior to pedals. It seemed easier working with large
tubes than tiny transistors :)

My firt was the November at the AX84 site.
