Phase 90 becomes a distorted tremolo !!

I built a P90 from the schematic at Tonepad on strip-board.
I matched four 2N5457's as I'm waiting on the correct fets
from smallbear.
I have an "almost" working circuit, but rather than "phase"
I have a kind of distorted tremolo, pot works, bypass works
but its just a "volume" pulse at the moment.
Am I "way off" trying to use 5457's in this circuit ??
I ask, as they are used in the Phase 45 ......

Help !
Thanks,
Marty.

I don't thing the wrong FET's would make it distort, I've stuck in lots of FET's in that circuit. but with mismatched Fet's 'tremolo' is likely to be the result.

Hmm, I just matched four 5953's ( getting closer! ) I now have "phase" on a lot of "hiss"
but no guitar signal coming through ... !!
I guess my problem is else where now ...
I have 2x at 1.90 volts ( AMZ fet tester )
and 2x at 1.91 volts

Marty.

BTW: Put a new matched pair of 5457's in my Phase 45/univibe and solved my volume loss
problem :-)   sweet !

Marty....My Tonepad PEZ 90 didn't work on first try also. The board tracings are really tight and I soldered across a diode and a .047 cap on mine.Once I traced the board by following the paperwork,I was able to correct mine...Works and sounds great! Check just to see if you bridged across a tracing(s).
