hey guys...

due to the complexity of my pedalboard, I've been making my own patch cables.

I was wondering if there was a good way to test these cables (other than using a cable tester) to see if there i any signal degredation within then due to wear and tear and also my bad soldering...

Possibly using a multimeter?

Thanks

in the 7th paragraph he explains a quick way to test cables using a nine volt and a speaker. hope this helps. i have used this method for sometime and it does work. you just need a speaker with a 1/4 inch input.

I've made myself a cable tester in a plastic Hammond box, 1/4" mono, 1/4" stereo, RCA and XLR connectors, some LED's and some momentary (NO , Normally Open) push button switches ... very handy. Good for testin for opens and shorts, crossed cabes, etc.

Can't tell if the cable is intermittent with this. I think Craig Anderton a long time ago wrote up a cable tester in GP to detect intermittent cables. I'd have to scan my photocopies and send them somewhere?

Besides the tests above for shorts/intermittant, I check cable resistance with the DMM, and capacitance with my cap meter.
