I recently bought an Ibanez TS-5 pedal that did'nt work. I opened it up and noticed that the on-off switch had obviously been messed with, Its got solder and wax twine on it.....I'm new at pedal repair, could any of you recommend where I can find a replacement switch and a good tutorial/book/video on getting started at these things ? Any help is greatly appreciated.   jamie Clark

I've bougt some of those at Farnell(.com) a little while ago.
More stuff, less fear, less  hassle and less censoring? How 'bout it??. To discuss what YOU want to discuss instead of what others decide for you. It's possible...

But not at diystompboxes.com...... regrettably

Small Bear Electronics has the switches. No tutorial necessary. Pull the old one, drop in the new one.

If you're new to the whole electronics thing in general then make sure you check out the FAQ pages here.

Sheesh !! I just read my response. That wasn't very helpful of me was it? I apologize. Let's try this again.

Tube Screamers in general have horribly unreliable switches in them. They go down all the time so make sure you buy a few of them. If you use that TS-5 alot it will break again.

The drop-in replacement switches are here

As for removing the switch you'll need either desoldering braid or a solder sucker - both available at Radio Shack. Just place the braid over the piece you want to desolder and heat it up with your iron. You'll see the copper braid turn silver. Careful of any overlay of the braid - it may heat up parts of your board you don't want heated up.

I have NO idea what wax twine is or why it's in your pedal.

When resoldering be careful not to overheat your components. Your iron doesn't need to touch the part for too long and you certainly don't need huge blobs of solder to hold anything down - a little will work just fine.

Al, I appreciate the advice and info.....I'm learning something already! After creeping around this forum and a few other sites, I might even break down and try to put a mod kit in. Thanks again, Jamie
