ROG Condor build-report, sound sample, compared to Ultra-G

I built the Condor just to see if it would sound better than my Behringer Ultra-G. I'll be mostly using it with my BSIAB2, so i thought the Marshall cab sound would be better suited for the job -- it's built on perf with the Marshall mods, but without the switching option. Though i may mod it back to its original settings to see how it will sound that way.

Anyway, i've been thinking about how to make a cab sim sound more like an actual amp, and had come up with this simple idea before the build:
The EQ stage of a guitar amp doesn't have a flat frequency response, it has a large dip at mid frequencies to compensate for the middle-emphasis of the pickups. That dip stays there for most of the knob combinations, which made me think that reproducing this kind of colorization would make the cab-sim sound more amp-like.

So, the plan was to add a Marshall tone stack before the Condor. But i don't have the required pots yet, so i used fixed resistors to simulate a tone stack set as 5/5/5. I will make this stage bypass-able once i re-build the tone stack with pots, but it does the job for now.

Now to how it sounds:
I must say that i was surprised by how good it sounded with my BSIAB2.

Here's a sound sample comparison between the Condor and UltraG:

Guitar > BSIAB2 > Condor/UltraG > Behringer tubepre > sound card. No post-EQ, no reverb etc. The settings were the kept same while switching between units, for an honest comparison. You hear the Condor first, then the UG.

I prefer the sound of the Condor with this setup, the UG sounds too dark. But i did not have the chance to do tests with other pedals yet, so it's
Condor: 1 , UG: 0 for now :D

Thanks to ROG...

I will post pics when i put it in an enclosure.

Sounds good - Condor sounds alot better than the Behringer to me too.
Think I'll head over to runoffgroove right now and check it out.
