what Boost pedal for EMG pickups

i need a boost pedal (volume boost only for solo's) that work with EMG pickups... but i'm not sure what to look for.. got MOSFET BOOSTER in mind.. aiming for the most transparent no color/tone change.....

note: in mosfet booster; can i skip the 9.1v zeneer diode ..?

i know there's a thousand booster out there (search) but what really work with EMG..??

  in mosfet booster;  The zener limits input V to below 9.1v, shunting greater potentials to ground, protecting the delicate 20v thick sheet of gate input glass.
  Combining shoes or a balloon and a carpet can generate 1000x that voltage, being a booster, chances are it'll have the other end of the plug 'romping around' from time to time..makes sense to show the diode there. If hardwired to-something, the gate would probably never be exposed to 'abnormally' high voltages.
  LED or other diode would work.. or clip if signal input got hotter than threshold voltage.

iv read in AMZ article sez that the diode can be skip if the Q got internal diode protection...  now what kind of Q is that.. 2N7000?
