Hello everyone, I've been thinking I need some sort of total freak out/feedback/noise pedal and stumbled across the insanity box.

I have much more experience with amp building and pro-audio stuff than pedals so despite not really being new to electronics a lot of the conventions of pedal building are unfamiliar to me.  Digi2t's vero layout looks reasonably straight forward, but I do have a few questions.

http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=91162.0

- What do the black and white circles in the upper right/lower left corners represent.  Are those standoffs/ground connections?
- There's a bunch of pinkish squares throughout the board, I'm guessing those are places where the trace needs to be broken.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum  :)

Those squares with the circles in them are trace cuts.

As for the black and white circles in the corners... I would venture to say those are places for standoffs, but I am not 100% on that.

Thank you, I'm glad to be here.  And thanks for clearing up the circuit trace question.

Hi,

Those are 3 x 3 squares that I usually clean the copper off, and drill for standoffs. I opposite corner mount all my boards, so the black hole is for the screw. Just haven`t figured out how make the strpes disappear yet

Enjoy this build, it`s a wicked little pedal.

Thanks Dino, and thanks for posting such an organized layout and parts list!

Thanks Aron. I haven't had time to upload it into the gallery, because I moved recently, and it's on my other computer. It'll be in the eventually. This sucker can really scream, be very judicious with the trimmer adjustments. A little dab 'll do ya  :icon_mrgreen: Go with recommended settings from the original schem, and adjust from there. Mine is more or less close to the schem.

The clipping switching is an extra that I added in, like it wasn't complicated enough already  :icon_wink:. A shout out to Mark Hammer has to go out on that one, especially for the switching/trim scheme. You may want to install the trim as an external pot, and have an adjustable offset, when switching between clip styles. Sort of a lead boost type arrangement.

I really enjoy translating these projects to vero. It's always a challenge to organize everything to be as compact as possible. This is my "Soduko" of sorts. I'll be adding more eventually, but if anyone has any special requests (within reason, no Ludwig Phase II's please  :icon_mrgreen:), I'll be more than happy to give it a shot.

Cheers,
Dino

QuoteWow, cool!

Indeed!  Didn't you have a hand in designing this?

I know what you mean, I really enjoy a good schematic over a cup of coffee in the morning.

While we're all talking, it looks like the pin spacing on the strip boards for sale in the store is about 2.5 mm.  What caps did you use that fit in there?  I was looking around for some wima's that would fit but didn't fare so well.

digi2t

I just use ordinary ceramic caps. I may use the occasional poly, even the rare mica room permitting, but ceramic has always done the job for me. Cheap, plentiful, and small. The electros are either 16 or 25 volt variety. I'm also a big fan of standing up the resistors, to save more space.

Just my two bits.

Hehehe. Yes I had a part in it! :-)
