I call it the sucker punch fuzz.  It's bassically all my faveorite FF varients all slaped together; and i added a diode clipping circuit.  Mr.Tim is another one o' those genious brain surgeons, by the way....

Anyhoo; what do youse guys think of the sucker-Punch Fuzz eh?

hi Yun...

just an FYI...i have a booster that i've been building/selling for almost 2 years that i call the Sucker Punch....don't want anyone to get confused. :)

btw...nice work on the circuit...if you think of it, try putting a resistor (probably about 10k) to ground from lug 1 of the "fuzz" pot on your Buzz-Tone circuit...that'll insure that the fuzz pot never "kills" the sound by removing the grounds from Q1/Q2 emitters...

rock on !

Uh oh, sorry, man.  i had no clue of the booster.  never heard of it, man.  Would you like me to change it eh?  I named it the sucker-punch as a "punch in the face Pun", you know?  So- let me know if you want me to change the name, and sorry again.

Thanks for the advice on the fuzz control, man.  I'm currently building another one, so- i'll definately try that....

NO WORRIES....  :)

don't worry about changing it...i just dont want anyone to get confused :)

Quote from: Yun on September 24, 2005, 10:03:02 PMSpeaking of which; i was thinking of making a new one with a Swolen pickle tone stack.  But i'm afraid it'll sound too bassy, you know?

While not a Buzz Box, I just breadboarded a Bazz Fuss with the tone stack and output buffer of the Swollen Pickle. Had to do it that way because the passive tone stack alone caused too much volume loss (noticeably less than unity gain through the whole circuit). It is bassy, but I am a bass player so that's what I wanted. Turned too much CCW and it's all mud, would probably be good for stoner sludge rock, but not my tastes. Anything right of center gets into guitar and then transistor radio territory. At the sweet spot just left of center though, you get a nice rich bass boost with still plenty of fuzz, which is why we build the pedal in the first place is it not?

For now, trying to avoid electrolytics in the circuit, I've got 150 nF on the input, 220 nF on the out and a 100 nF coupling cap between the tone control and output gain stage (so as not to disturb the biasing of the transistor). That is probably cutting some low end, but the tone control itself seems to more than make up for it.

I'll try to post clips and more component values in the next few days if I get time.

You should try the 2 transistor circuit (My varient of the buzz-Box).  Build V.2 though.  Remember:  Germanium diodes for the diode clipping circuit.  I REALLY love the V.2 that i made.  It's WAY more tonefull; as it's got an extra transistor stage to "boost".  I don't think the bazz fuzz will do the circuit justice compared to my Buzz-Tone V.2 .

As a second thaught, as you are a bass player, i'd use All silicon diodes.  You'll get that extra Beefyness and punch.  Because i built one with all silicon and it was too punchy and beefy- however i am a blues guitarist (i'd like to consider myself, anyway).

Anyhoo; good luck, have fun, and happy building mr.Tommy  :)
