I'm adding a tone pot

using the big muff circuit from the mods faq for my tonebender. Here it is but what value should the pot be? And, what is a low-pass filter? AND, is it possible to do the more gain and mellower gain on a fuzz circuit (that works on transistors rather than diodes?

Big Muff tone pot is normally 100k lin.
Low pass filter, "lets lows through" but not "highs"

"Low pass" = "High rolloff" or "High cut"

Thanks, but I have another question (or a million). I'm starting a big daddy and I want to add the tone pot for it. Do you think there is a need? I will probably do it anyway for the sake of learning, but also should I use the specified values or what would be a good alternative? I want nice middy sounds for punk and good ol' rock'n'roll.  I'd really appreciate if someone explained how the tonestack works, I know higher impedence retains more treble, but I can't even remember what frequencies represent treble, middle and bass... Last question is do I set a tone pot flat by putting it on 12 o'clock? My guess is yes but still.
Thank you very much.

I have the tonestack calculator, but I can't figure out what components affect what. If someone knows a website that explains how to identify what does what in a circuit that would be great. A basic kind of explanation on planning circuits. I want to be able to look at a schematic or a real circuit and for it to make sense to me beyond just "ok this is a transistor and that is a diode".
