I bought myself an inexpensive Brother Laser printer that I think is going to get my prints onto copper now?

Do you guys set the printer toner for darkest settings and at what DPI(600 enough)?

What about the heat range settings on your hand iron?

Meantime I'll also do some searching on the topic..

no one ever

dark? you can set printer contrast?

i've read that you must set it as high as possible. the iron heat, i mean

Toner: as dark as you possibly can.

Iron: experiment. Everyone has different experiences, settings etc.

Getting more toner on the sheet generally helps with adhesion to the copper during the transfer process, especially when dealing with large areas (you can find siometimes that large pads or ground planes can end up spotty if the toner isn't thick enough).

The one circumstance where I would urge caution is this.  Make absolutely sure the PCB mask pattern is pure B&W.  Often, the mask patterns we can get from here or there are 4-bit or 8-bit greyscale.  Under those circumstances what looks like "white" on the screen can actually be a very light shade of grey.  Cranking up the darkness on the printer can transform that light grey into a sort of spray-paint mist of black speckles on the PnP and, ultimately, copper board. :icon_evil:  If the image consists solely of black pads and traces, and pristine white spaces between them, then cranking up the toner thickness (darkness) via the printer software will have an impact only on the black parts and not on the white.
