I found the schem for this on the schematics page here at the forum, in Johans layouts gallery.
I've used actual LA-Audio compressors in studios and i've always liked the soft musical compression, so I thought a workalike would be nice. I think the low-end bias is the key to this design, which sets it apart from most other comps. That and the soft knee opto-electronics.
Since nobody else seemed interested, I thought I'd make a layout for this myself, shown below.
This was done in EasyPCB, my first attempt. Not the most compact layout, but quite a neat effort I think, especially having all the offboard components on the top and left hand edges. I also added a high impedance MOSFET input buffer, in an attempt to improve the signal/noise ration and to drive the comp harder. If you want, you can omit this, which will save nearly half the board space! I'm not sure how I managed to take up so much room with just a Mos-Boost but there you go. ;)
Thoughts and Ideas welcome! : :icon_biggrin:

Nice !
the buffer is actually a good idea especially with comps as they usually start the pedal line .

Any chance of comparing it to the Flatline ??

Yes Goosonique, that was my thinking originally. As I say, I think it'll improve the signal/noise ratio since less makeup gain will be needed.
I've only just finished the layout in the last few minutes, so i've not built it yet. I'm hoping to get some PnP next week and then i'll be able to get the layout re-sized and compiled into a pdf for scaling.
I'd say it will be somewhat less transparent than the flatline, as it has the ability to bleed off some low frequencies in the side chain. This can have the effect of compressing higher frequencies more heavily, however it is designed to compensate for the low-frequency bias of passive guitar pickups so it can be more subtle.
My layout incorporates a ratio control as well. It is my intention that when using a 5k pot, it is possible to go from heavy limiting to very low ratio's of compression. In this way, it can almost be used as a clean boost.

Sweet! Have a schematic for this beast?
