BC549A's with a gain of 120 are very common though. Let us no forget A means low gain region, whether its a "BC" or not.

One could also try "sziklai" instead of Q1 OR Q2 , not both, for less gain.

Yes, that's why I used the 'A' sufix. But I tried it with 'B' because that's all I had at hand.

I tried also using a regular NPN for the fuzz face "Q1" and the Sziklai on "Q2" and got good sounds, so different combinations and permutations can be tried with good results. That probably requieres some adjustment in the collector resistors, but that's not hard to do :)

A sziklai for Q1 would also mean higher input impedance (up to the 100k feedback resistor) because of the higher current gain and if coupled at guitar directly this means more distorted treble (axis fuzz like). Some may like it, others don't.

For low gain silicons, try TIP31 / TIP29 as well as 2N3055  / MJ2955. There are lots of low hFE power transistors.  :icon_biggrin:

I like the "Moore Fuzz" version of the name.  8)

Again, I'll point out that this fuzz has a darlington already cooking in it.

Can you have a Darlington using 2 Darlingtons?  Double Darlington.   :icon_cool:
