 The 29$ one
  Sports advertising of:
  Wah Q control
  lots of control
  low noise circuitry
  'potless' sweep control
Does this and that wah type tones
  Questions...does it have an inductor?
  Anyone try it out?
  Comments...

Havent tried it but I would think at that sort of price you're looking at a twin-t based circuit.

I unscrewed the back of my Snarling Dogs Firebawl today and that's a twin-t...I was hoping it had an inductor because I wouldn't mind trying it in my crybaby.

I think I'll reuse the chassis to put in Craig Andertons Volume Pedal design and an Orange Squeezer (using the "Boost" control on the pedal to control the volume).

firebawl wah  twin t?????  thats interesting when did they change.??????   not that i am doubting you i just have had all there products but one and every wah i have seen of there's has an inductor.  last time i talked to Kenny too he agreed but thats been over a year ago.

Sorry, I thought "optical" was only "light source" based.... LDR style  :icon_redface:

That is true, but as PT says, you can use the LDR in any of those different style wahs.

I need to get up to speed with my "lack of Wah knowledge"  !!

BTW, it looks like a nice Wah shell etc, good value too.

I have a friend who has a Behringer Amp, and it actually sounds pretty good. If it were me, i'd get that Wah. In fact, i might get one, anyway. And if it sounds like crap, then hey, you only payed $30 bucks for a nice lookin' shell.

petemoore

But is the shell having a place to turn a pot...seems like they're saying 'potless' in not so many words.
It is possible to get sweeps using LDR's and a movable light shield, that 'variabley occludes' the light source, letting light through or blocking it in varying degrees, as in a Morley Power Phaser.
Still it is an inexpensive and interesting curiosity, and could always be fitted with a pot mount plate.
The words I've seen describing it [here, there and the ad], haven't expressed any major problems with it, I get the idea it probably sounds decent at least.

i am gonna take a stab and say that it has a geared mechanism in it that turns a pot. based off looking at the construction of the shell anyway.  i am going to check one out at guitar center as soon as my ride shows up.  got my little tool bag ready to go.

I've read somewhere that the wah shell is made of plastic. So you may not be able to stomp the heck out of it.

Certainly cheap though!

jimmy

i bought one. theyre 70 bucks here in aus, but it beats the hell out of 200 approx for a crybaby.

the verdict - well they arent too bad, no pot, twin-t. the REAL pain in the arse is that the resistors and ics are SMD. they sound pretty good to my ears. all the knobs sound impressive, but dont do a great deal. very err, subtle. except for the boost knob, you can hear that.

speaking of, it is pretty noisy with the boost all the way up, but when the boost is not on at all, it is preeeetty quiet. when i get a bit of free time, ill record a clip if you like.

cheers

yep already got to see one.  not my cup of tee really.  however the shell could be made into something worthy of cold casting perhaps. sincei am getting into diy smelting i will let you know how my homebrew wah shells comeout.

I don't know whether the Behringer wah case is the same as their FCV100 stereo volume pedal, but the latter has a very solid metal bade & top with some kind of rubber overlay. I'd stomp on it.

petemoore

Jimmy, have you taken a look at the switch?
It might not be very easy to install a true bypass stompswitch...
