I've built my second Clone Theory using the revised layout from this thread: http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=37869.msg266667#msg266667

There is a small error on the layout. Pin 4 of the 1458 (on the upper right corner of the layout) is not attached to ground. I added a short jumper to the nearby ground trace.

It works but there is a lot of noise from the MAX 1044 and I'm not getting quite 15 volts out of the regulator. I measure just under 16 volts going into the regulator using a battery measured at about 8.8 volts in the circuit. Regulator out is just over 12 volts. I'm going to try bypassing the 1044 circuit and powering it directly from 15 volts to see how it sounds and I'll report back.

Thanks Rick

Try it with a +9v regulated power supply, should be getting +17v out of the MAX1044. Just enough for the regulator. I was worried about noise from the MAX1044. I will produce a layout without the charge pump circuit on it and add it to the PDF too. Also I will correct the error on the 1458.

I still have the layout fully populated however the charge pump circuit wasnt working on mine at all, I was getting 4.5v out of it.

I tried it with a regulated Boss 9 volt wart with pretty much the same results.

I've since removed the 1044 from its socket and tried it with 15 volts directly to the 15 volt trace and with 18 volts (two batteries) to the input of the regulator. Both work fine, no noise. As it stands I have a 15 volt input jack and two battery snaps connected with the option to use either. I just have to remember not to try to use both at the same time.

If the layout changes are simple I'll mod my board, otherwise I think I'll leave it the way it is. I now have two completed, working Clone Theory boards plus two original EH Clone Theorys. I guess that's enough.

Wouldnt want to sell one of your original clone theory' would you?

The changes to the board are so you can use EITHER 2X9v batteries, and an 18v PSU, or a 15v PSU.

I left the MAX1044 layout as is except added the jumper to pin 4 of 1458.

Kind of disapointing the MAX1044 causes so much noise, I cant think of any way to reduce it either.
