QuoteActually the "monster voice" in OOTD is Nick Mason. There was a DJ named Jimmy (somebody) who used to criticize them a lot back in those days. They used to play tapes of him all spliced up ("cut into little pieces") in their concerts as kind of a joke. It may have been as an intro to OOTD which they were developing from a jam at the time. I don't remember and would have to look it up. In any case, the tapes and OOTD were all part of the same joke- kind of taking a shot at their 'favorite' DJ...
I can add some unnecessary details here...
Along with being slowed down, Mason's voice was fed through a guitar amp with a fast tremolo and a Coloursound distortion pedal.
The Doctor Who part is played on the VCS-3, as are the wind sounds.

It would be very cool if someone came up with a Binson Echorec VST plug-in. I think it would be hard to make something like this DIY, and a manufacturer would charge crazy cash for one. A VST plug would be right in the perfect price range!

hi, sorry vanessa and others and i don't mean to get off your topic but,...

Someone mentioned "live at Pompeii" in this thread, i just seen that dvd in a store for sale, is that any good?  Does it have this binson echorec on the dvd?

again i apologize guys, i just thought i would ask since someone mentioned it :icon_wink:

I have the "Live At Pompeii" DVD. It's good. Basically, is them playing in a empty colosseum, with nobody watching them, with a lot of visual effects. Also, it have a few interview parts and videos from "Dark Side Of The Moon" recording sessions, and the guitar/harmonica/dog blues (don't remember the name now). Plus, they begin and end the DVD with one of their best songs, "Echoes".

Vanessa, the CA Tremolo is not the same as EA Tremolo. The CA Tremolo is Craig Anderton Tremolo, a very versatile tremolo, which the project can be found at GGG. Also, maybe a Tremulus Lune does the job too.

formerMember1, you might want to check out the "Pink Floyd - London 1966-1967" film that just got released on DVD. I saw a copy at Wal-Mart just last week.
It shows the band performing Interstellar Overdrive and the otherwise unreleased "Nick's Boogie" in the studio. This is the classic Syd Barrett era line-up from the first album.
I have an older VHS version and if I remember correctly, you can clearly see an Echorec sitting on Richard Wrights organ and/or Barrett fiddling with one.

Live at Pompeii is great if you like the band. The DVD contains both the original film and a new version with additional footage of Pompeii (and other stuff) spliced in.

yeah cool!! I am not a huge follower of the band, i actually only own the double disc echoes album, but i do like gilmours tone on numb, time, echoes, etc... and that is why i like them, becuase of the great Gilmour!!

Which do you think will be better for me to see some of the good guitar tones/lead playing,.... 66'67 or pompeii?

thanks,

sorry for the highjack

If you have not seen Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii, you are in for a big treat should you choose to watch it.  This is not your radio friendly Floyd, mind you, this film represents a far more experimental early Floyd playing a few of their early selections in the dirt of an empty Roman colosseum.  There are few cooler things than that IMHO.  A unique  one, for sure-  That solo Gilmour plays through the latter half of Echoes part 1 gives me chills every time I hear it.  It is too bad that the whole "one of these days" sequence is just Nick Mason footage.  What produced those sounds for that track was an even greater enigma back then.  The extra footage of the Waters working with the VCS3 in the studio is just killer!  WEMWEMWEM PINK FLOYD LONDON!!!!!!!  No less than 8 Leslie speakers, too!!!   :icon_eek: :icon_eek: :icon_eek:
