I just built a bazz fuzz using this schematic:

http://home-wrecker.com/bazz.html

Mods:  I used a 2n3904 tranny, and a .1uf input cap with a .1uf output cap.  I used a red LED for the diode.  Both cap outputs are higher than what he recommended for use with a red LED diode...but for some reason I can't barely play on my high E at all.

**edit**
Checked and I'm getting about 1.1 volts at the LED +.  Noticed he said use an orange LED, not red lol.  Would that cause loss in certain frequencies getting through the circuit?

Use a darlington as the transistor

I don't mind the sound though, I just want it to do high end also.  Would this effect it?

**edit**
Also the caps are 0.1uF Polyester film.  Should I use a different type of cap?

Ok...so, if I adjust my pickups so that its using both pickups then I get decent high end sound, very little sustain though, and I have to hit it relatively hard to keep a good sound.  Any ideas guys?

btw, my guitar is a Lyon 2 dualcoil pickups.

Would having the wrong diode do it?  What exactly does the diode do here?

It depends, a high voltage diode would not be good, man  :icon_lol: .  You can use pretty much any diode, GE, Silicon, germ trannies converted, etc.

The diode directs, or "points" the current to the place needed, man.  It wouldn't work if you didn't have any diodes in there  :icon_wink:

Just make sure the diode isn't flipped "the round way around" , you know?

Ok...its probably the wrong LED then.  I will try a orange one as soon as I can get my hands on one.  I hope I didn't hurt anything when I tried shorting the connection with a pen lol.  It doesn't seem to act any differently now than it did before though, so no worries.  That and nothing on this was pricey.  I'm pretty sure I have both the tranny and LED going the proper directions.

You could try my Darling Fuzz ciruit for a bit more treble.

no. I noticed this with the High E , kinda chokes up , with the bazz fuss too. I also tried many diode , inout caps , tranny types to see if something would open it up but no major change. Sort of like it's supposed to behave that way with a guitar. .maybe that's why it's a Bazz(ss) Fuss(zz)??haha. no really
I'd like to know if someone is familiar with this symptom and knows the reason behind it. I loved the drive texture it had but this exact 'problems' caused me to toss the little guy in my circuit box!!
also think I had a little trouble tweaking that 'top' resistor to bias the tranny . Got some gating . It was listed as both 10k or 100k on the schematic I believe. what should the volage have to be on that tranny (Col) for it to be amplifying properly btw  , 4.5v?

Its ok.  It was 100k if you use a 2n3904 or 2n5088, 10k resistor if you use a MPSA13.

I'm going to try a 1n914 for the diode and see what that does.  At the same time I think I'm going to socket the diode and both the input and output caps so I can grab a couple 10uF caps and try this with my brother's bass.

Well, I put in a 1n914, socketed the caps.  Tried 4.7 in .1 out, tried 10 in 10 out...don't care for it any way I try it.  I guess it'll go to my brother for use with his bass, since thats what it was designed for anyway lol.

Alright!  I got it working!  I had the 2n3904 reversed!  lol.

**edit**
Now it makes me want to throw a socket in for the diode so I can try that LED again lol.
