Fix or not fix

I have a friend who works at a local music store. And, when they buy used pedals they often rent them out till they break, once it is broken they throw them out. So, I got the local tech guy to put them aside for me. All I have gotten are a Digitech PDS 1002 http://filters.muziq.be/model/digitech/pds/1002 and a ibanez sound tank dl5 http://filters.muziq.be/model/ibanez/soundtank/dl5. Niether of them have any obvious issues, bad connections, bad pots or any noticable bad parts (by the eye). Should I bother jumping into trying to fix these pedals? And, what tools would be needed other than audio scope and dmm? Is it worth it?

I don't see much digi-repair text, nor schemati, except the usual...look for something obvious, probe around if you can find where it 'gets lost'. [If it's a known chip there's a chance you could take voltage measurements?...rambling...unless you know what 'what' should be...

The sound tank can be fixed, or in my case bought, working, for 5$, You could get a DMM [handy, worthwhile item to have around and learn how to use, not too pricey IMO], and take voltage measurements, audio probe etc. half chance says it could be the bypass switching, which I think is jfet, and complicated-er probably than any of the tasks required to DIY a Fuzzbox with DPDT or 3PDT B/PSwitching.
I'd either build a Fuzzbox, or...read thread: "*What to do when it doesn't work" at near top of BYOSB threads, download 'n print the schem to the soundtank you have, take voltage measurements of items listed in *WTDWIDW Thread, audio probe to see how far the signal gets in the box [if it gets past the Jfet switchings, input of circuit and output, debugging is something even I could help with].

Speaking as the 20yr owner of a Digitech1002, I can tell you that mine stopped working and it was simply an unplugged connection inside. I'm saying this because they're prone to this as they get on in years.

'Speaking as the 20yr owner of a Digitech1002'.
  1002...isn't that a 'big' one?
Does it have the 'pry' jack'in PCB's...if external plugs are via plastic body/soldered in PCB type connections, these are a good for failure/place to 'try' looking.
I found a loose connection more than once this way. Finding the problem was pretty easy, finding the solution was 50/50 to impossible for my attempts, too tight, couldn't even see the bottom of the board etc. I did manage a jumper wire fix on one of them though.

Thnx pete and RDV.  I think I'll give it a try! It sounds fun and I think I'll learn alot! I just printed all the helps on the help page. And on RG's page there alot of good stuff I printed out. Now for a really dumb question. If I find the a PDF with info for the chips and read outs of voltage, do the voltages allways equally the voltages for all aplications of a particular IC. I mean... lets say I have a bunch of different pedals using a tl072, will the voltage readings all be fairly the same for all the pins on the differnet pedals, or does the voltage depend on the layout? So, if it is a tl072 it should allways read this this and this. Or is it different pedal to pedal. Also, I just recieved a email from digitech with the orignal schematic (so that should help a great deal). But I have not heard from Ibanez. Also, just to let you know, both pedals turn on (led lights up) but there is no difference in bypass or when they are activated, just clean sound. thnx

Lots of plastic interconnects inside that easily come apart with a good jarring.
