Hey there,

I'm ready to do my first project and think the one that I'm most interested in is the BSIAB II. Sounds like a superior distortion to everything else I already have. (And it would be cool to build my own :icon_mrgreen:)

Question is I have been to the GGG site and do I simply order the parts from mouser as suggested or have the people with experiance found a better way to build this project. I am going to order the printed circuit board from GGG (and possibly the May Queen as well)

Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks

Do you have any parts at all? Mouser is a great resource with good bulk pricing on some items. It's also huge and can be frustrating if you don't know exactly what you're looking for. But since you've got a list you should be OK.

But, Small Bear Electronics has everything you need in one place (with pictures) and also has some good prices on items (cases, switches etc.). The prices on some of these items are better than Mouser and I don't think Mouser carries 3PDT switches. They do carry DPDT switches and the prices are ridiculous.

If you are just ordering for one project I think Small Bear would be your best bet. Everything is you need should be there. If you order from Mouser you may still need a few items from somewhere else. Plus Steve is a great guy to deal with.

I recently built the BSIABII from the GGG BOM on JDs board - definitely the way to go.  I pasted the BOM into Mouser's project manager and instantly had a listing of almost everything I needed.  You have to go through and make the resistors minimum quantities (min10 usually) but other than that it works pretty well.  NOTE: The transistor sockets on the BOM are not the inline sort - so they won't work with JD's board.  Also, make sure all your pots are 16mm - two of mine were 16mm and one was bigger (probably my mistake - but it was annoying since I already had the enclosure drilled!)  I recommend you order the switch from JD when you buy the board - he sells 3PDTs in twos - good motivation to buy two boards...and you only have to pay shipping once!!

Good luck with your first build!

Yeah good luck...are you sure you want to start with the BSIAB? maybe not the best circuit to try as a first attempt to diy. Why don't you try the minibooster first? the BSIAB is basically two cascaded miniboosters.

Anyway ,have fun with it. Check all the resistor and cap values, and the transistor pinouts !!! those are very common mistakes ( I did....)

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but it seems like those Mouser pots had detents (11 different stops within the pot's rotation).  You may or may not like this.  I prefer a smooth pot without the detents.

I ordered the resistors from Mouser and most everything else from Small Bear.
