I was thinking of asking for one of these for Xmas as I always have a hard time soldering with things being steady.... how much do they go for?

KORGULL

I've seen them anywhere from $3.95 to about $12.00 (U.S$) from mail-order places.
There are a couple different sizes, and some have soldering iron holders built-in.

Radio Shack has them now if mail-order is too much hassle: http://www.radioshack.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=helping%20hand

chokeyou

i actually just picked one up from radioshack, no goosenecks but kinda posable arms with alligator clips...it includes a soldering iron holder and a giant magnifying glass if you cant see what you're doing...dont have a use for that yet though.

My "third hand " is a piece of wood with a couple of these nailed to it. It does the job.

In the US it's "clothespin", even though there are no pins involved.

But there are americans involved and that's enough to call it anything.  ;D

Sorry if this bad joke offended anyone.

Thank God you americans are able to use a single word for almost everything :icon_mrgreen:. In my language (catalan) we call that "pinces d'estendre la roba".

One of the old cats at the service department in my company showed me some little tricks like that. His short cut detector is a light bulb.

BTW ,enough of the off topic..
