widen the TS's bandpass filter?

I'm experienced in making pedals, but new in reforming them.  I built a TS-808 clone but the 'tone' control ranges from too muddy to too trebly with nowhere in between.  I know its a bandpass filter, how can I widen the range of frequencies that it allows to pass through at once?  I like the punchy trebles, but I'd also like some powerful bass and maybe even a mid cut in between.  Maybe a wide bandpass filter than a narrow band-reject filter after.

It's not really a bandpass filter. It's more of a shelving high cut/high boost filter. See "The Technology of the Tube Screamer".

Your idea is good - rip out the tone circuit and put in whatever makes your ears happy instead.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.
