Would a NTE 996 work as a replacement for the 741 in an ROG Tube Reamer?

I can't figure out if the NTE 996 is a single op-amp or not? I built a Tube Reamer from Gringo's Layout and its dead when switched on? So I was first wondering if maybe I have the wrong IC. I have some RC4558's coming but they aren't here yet (they should work right?). I'm stepping away from the build until tommorrow so I can cool down a bit before I break out the multimeter and audio probe. Thanks!!
If it ain't broke...   ...it will be soon.

an NTE 996 is a operational transconductance amp..i dont think you want to use this but if you have it in a dip the pinouys are the same....Radio Snack has 741 op amps that would work ...a little noisy though I would use a TL071 single fet op amp very quiet and nice sound as well as cheap!!!
practice cause time does not stop...

yeah... that's an OTA, good in compressors and the like. you should probably just get a single opamp to put in and use... save that OTA for something else! Dynacomp, maybe...  :)
