hello fellow stomboxbuilders!

I wanna bulid a stompbox that can juice up my marshall 2104 (2x12 combo). Currently i´m using a homemade microamp, but i ´m not happy with the effect it´s has on the amp when the pre-amp is maxed. it sounds sweet when the preamp is set about 4-6. but when set higher it gets really muddy and bassy. i want a to build an effect that keeps the marshall tone but adds more gain. what booster/od would you recommend.(just not the zw-44, i´ve heard it´s really noisy). oh, and also i want to build a really heavey distortion, any ideas???

Howdy.  Those are nice amps.  I have a few that may suit your needs, the Marsha Valve booster and Sixteen Overdrive.  Both of them are based of Marshall pre-amps.  Info on them is on my site (see links below in signature).

I happen to like the ZW-44 a lot.  I don't get a lot of noise out of it unless the gain is maxed out, just like any other OD.  The only problem I do have with it is it pickups up a local AM station when playing at my brother-in-law's house.  If there's a hockey game on while we're jamming, we can always check the score of the game through my amp.  :D

As for really heavy distortion, check out Joe Davisson's circuits like the Vulcan.

BSIAB II.  Works great for boosting my JCM 800.  Also has a very good high gain sound.  Overall it's a winner!

isn´t the bsiabII suppose to simulate a cranked marshall amp  :icon_confused:

It does a nice high gain crunch, that's for sure, sounds alot like a cranked marshall...descriptions become innefective...all dirtboxes sound like a cranked marshall, depending on who's doing the cranking, and through what I guess.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

I haven't tried the AMZ OD Pro on my Marshall.  I need to though.  ;)

The BSIABII is a really good distortion circuit.  It can get really heavy.  Another alternative for you besides the Vulcan.
