A couple of weeks before Christmas, my Wife and I were looking for presents for each other. We stopped at a local store that advertised a sale of CDs picked up from a distributor that had closed. As we looked, she hands me Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush – Real Live – and it's marked down from $49 to $8.99 (!!) and asks, 'Do you want this?' I said, 'yes', and then instantly changed my response to 'HELL YES!!!!!'

Back in the mid-late '70s I listened to Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush quite a bit, but I hadn't listened to him for a couple of decades. Of course, I remembered him when threads mentioning him appeared here, but my memories (or lack of them)  ;) didn't do him justice.

All I can say is WOW – this guy can play! And he goes from straight out hard rock to the most melodic jazz tone and back effortlessly. I've only had a chance to listen to the double CD once so far, but it will be in heavy rotation! On his website there are mentions of a possible DVD release. I would love to see how he does what he does!

Totally amazing!

Frank, Robin Trower, Rory Galagher, Robben Ford, Dave Gilmour ..... now you're talkin  :D !!

Add BB King, Pat Metheny, SRV and Albert Lee, that's about all you need to know about great
melodic guitar playing ...            ( I'm sure there are a few more ! )

Hi Dean,

Yea, I bought the Real Live CD when it first came out.  I noticed that Frank has been re-mastering and releasing some of his older material.
Just before Christmas while searching for CDs for the kids (you know the ones - they all have "Explicit Lyrics" warnings on the front :o) I bought Full Circle and Double Live at cdn$20 each. The latter is not a double CD, btw, but judging from the length of some of the tracks I'm guessing the original vinyl was a double album.  I haven't had time to play them yet - too many Xmas things going on... but soon.  His version of All Along The Watchtower is one of my all time favourite tracks.
