i think overall, ebay is awesome.  yes, every once in a while you get @#$%ed, but it's almost worth it because of all the other good stuff that you get for dirt cheap.  ebay gets two thumbs up from me.

I got burnt too!!!! except a little worse. 200 sh*tcraft jacks, 100 useless chickenheads, and 100  dpdt switches I'll prob. have to replace every 2 weeks if I put them into customers products. I got suckered in after someone posted a link here in this forum. Pretty shady if you ask me-- they had links to the stewmac catalog stating these were the items they were selling-- definitely not the same quality though( The jacks have jagged edges around the tab for the sleeve and are thinner than the switchcraft. the switches poles are separated by plastic snap in inserts rather than globs of epoxy, and of course the kicker is the chickenheads that won't fit on the advertised shaft) . They even sent me different jacks than I ordered. I ordered 100 mono with NC switch and 100 stereo. They sent me 200 stereo with a NC switch on the tip. I have had good luck on ebay previously, but am not looking forward to the process of trying to get my money back.

Soundcollage, someone will want your chickenheads, if they are 6mm, because most asian pots (like Alps) are 6mm (smaller than 1/4).

I buy and sell on ebay and one of the problems was when they bought out paypal. When you sell ,you get charged on both ends which go to eaby. But the times i got ripped off was when i bought---the sellers had 100% feedback but when they decided to go bad they ripprd lots of people off--and there is no recourse thru paypal since they have no money in their accounts----i believe ebay should make sellers put up money untill 30 days after their items are sold.then the money they made from their sold items and the (front)money they put up will be forewarded to their paypal account.Would also help when there's a dispute with fake merchandise.

i have a bad story too! I bought a package P.A. system on eBay, the amp rated for 500 watts rms and the speakers rated for 750 watts rms...

what arrived was all rated at 350 watts rms.

and I couldn't (for some reason) trade it back. they had a 'no return policy', and eBay held me to it.

otherwise, ebay's been good... only bad one so far.

The problem there is that there are as many bad buyers as there are sellers.  As an occasional seller, I have enough issues with Paypal without dealing with that too.  There are stories of bad buyers saying they were ripped off, then placing a transaction in dispute with their credit card company.  The company does a chargeback, sucking the money out of the seller's account until it's resolved.  I don't know if that's still possible, but it's the reason I didn't accept Paypal for a $2,500 item I sold a couple of years ago.  ...that and the Paypal fees.

My GOD man , think about what that does to the MANY honest sellers out there who actually NEED the money out of the stuff they're selling now and for a reason! If they did that sure it would cover alot of bad transactions, which I think there are already many things in place to cover, BUT people who are just selling off stuff for the money would not even be able to touch the cash that they are getting out of the auctions!! For a month I guess is what you're suggesting? Heck by that time I likely wouldn't need the money for whatever it was I was needing it for.  I guess that would work for big time power sellers and are consistantly moving mass quantities of merch to keep them honest BUT HELL on those of us who sell our stuff here and there just for extra cash to pay bills, etc...
anyhow your suggestion wasn't my orig. reason for posting.. I too have recently purchased some IC's from this guy, not through an ebay auction but I just came across his name and contacted him to make an offer for some BBD's for like .75cents apiece and he accepted it! He has seemed very honest and up front so far but NOW I am worried a bit after hearing these horror stories! I even told the guy that I was warned about buying from him(not from who) maybe that'll straighten him up to fly right? But besides the JACKS and likely 6mm chicken heads have the BBD's that everyone's got so far been authentic and up to par?? I'd really like to know.
