A chip + pair of FETs = 1000W amp:

That's nothing. When I use chips that are not available anywhere, I can make 10KW amps.

This is very similar to the chips they sell to do the modern computer power supplies.  Standard gate driver chip.  This one can float higher for the top, but otherwise very similar.  Not sure how efficient it is given that the chip can handle 1.2 A drive current for those large devices.  Oh, and you still need something to create the PWM signal driving this chip.
