Hello ....
I know that I'm probably in the wrong place for this request, but it'd be great if soneone could help me .... or atleast point to the correct forum  :icon_razz:

Looking for a wee bit of help with installing a switch.
I got one of the Danelectro Honeytone amplifiers. I installed a line out jack for connecting to an external cab.

What I want to do is install a bypass switch that will bypass the internal speaker and drive only the external cab.

I don't know what switch to get or how to wire the switch into the current wiring.
- If any information is required, then pease let me know and I'll do my best to supply it.

Here is how the jack was wired in:
1.) Open the back of the amp, and solder a wire from the black wire's (-ve) tab on the speaker to the sleeve tab on the jack. (leave the black wire connected)
2.) Unsolder the red wire (+ve) from the speaker and connect it to the tip's tab on the jack.
3.) Solder a wire from the Switch's tab on the jack to the red wire's tab on the speaker
4.) Drill a hole (around 10mm) straight through the back of the amp where it says made in China CE, push the jack through and screw on the nut/washer.
(Thanks to Ham for providing the instructions on the Harmony Central revire of the amp .... you never left an email address!!  :icon_sad:  )

I know that this is a small practice amp, but as it was cheap, I'm really just using it for experimentation with mods.

Thanks all
A.

First, lets get some of the terminology straight. You have installed an external speaker jack, not a line out jack. A line level signal is a low level signal typically used by synthesizers, rack effects etc.

The description in the instructions would work as you want it to. I.e. the internal speaker should be disconnected when you insert a plug. If that's not the case, you have done something wrong. Looks like you may not be using the switch tab on the jack correctly. Check the wiring again! Check that you really have a switching jack.

Check out amp schematics, they'll show what is recommended.
A Switched jack prevents both speakers being connected [often the internal speaker is close to min ohmage, adding another to it may exceed min ohmage :icon_evil:]...that's what I'd want there....no plug in the jack=the internal speaker 'OR' plug in jack = external speaker only.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Hi all ... thanks for the quick replies.

I never though about installing a switch jack. I'll try and find one and see how that goes.
My original plan was just to install a manual switch and manually switch over from the internal speaker to the external speakers.

Can you advise me on how the wiring should be carried out as I only installed a standard mono jack.

Thanks again for your help.

You've already got the proper instructions:

1.) Open the back of the amp, and solder a wire from the black wire's (-ve) tab on the speaker to the sleeve tab on the jack. (leave the black wire connected)
2.) Unsolder the red wire (+ve) from the speaker and connect it to the tip's tab on the jack.
3.) Solder a wire from the Switch's tab on the jack to the red wire's tab on the speaker
4.) Drill a hole (around 10mm) straight through the back of the amp where it says made in China CE, push the jack through and screw on the nut/washer.
