Hey guys, can somone help me out?

Here's the dillio. I'm a bass player, and I love distortion. I probably have over 20 overdrive/distortion/fuzz pedals in my arsenal, but none of them have the sound I'm looking for. The closest thing I can think of to what I want to hear is Tim Commerford's distorted bass sound. I guess like a "chainsaw that's missing a few teeth" to put it as Tim said in an interview. I'm willing to mod some of my pedals, just not all of them. The ones I am completely willing to mod for this are as follows:

Boss Metal Zone
Danelectro Daddy O
Danelectro Fab Tone
Boss Bass OD
Boss Blues Driver

I'm looking for any type of help with this. I'm dying for a true kickass distortion that can cut through my guitarists twin Mesa Boogie Dual Recs. Thank you for your time.

A pedal isn't the answer.  TC uses many different amps together, clean and distorted, to get his sound.  He may use pedals to enhance/shape the distortion, but the core tone comes from the clean/dirty amp setup.  Particularly on bass, it's hard to get distortion and still have clear low end.

The best way to approximate this isn't really a pedal, but you can get close with the Line6 Bass PODxt Live, by blending the distorted signal with the dry DI signal.

Awesome, thanks for your input guys. Lyle, live I usually set up with two amps anyway so I can keep the clean signal from my ampeg stack since its so heavy and just, well, evil. Any comment on what my dist. amp should be? I'm really open to anything for that sound- new amps, heads, a new cab or two. I'm on that quest for tone and I shant be stopped! Mwahahaha!
