Klon clones?

  No...but from the descriptions...I was about to mention that higher voltage supply would seem like the place to start to get 'there'/

The thing I did like about the Klon was that "sharp" clipping - possibly due to the midrange boost but I did sound different than most pedals. I later found out it was due to germanium diodes and I was totally amazed. I would have never guessed that.

The HotCake - I loved. The best op amp clipper without diodes that I have played.

All that being said, the Shaka series can give you a great boost and you can really tweak it for your setup. I've been using them for years.

I couldn't agree more. The Cauldron of Gain, which I posted on here months ago, had great results and it led me to reseach a bunch of different distortion/OD methods with a 18 volts (a few at 24v and 1 or 2 at 30v). Awesome results that led me to a few new designs. So much more natural sounding/occuring overdrive. Makes you wonder if technology of the circuit or simply raising the voltage would be a better way to bridge the gap between tubes and non-tubes. (Actually it is probably a combination of the two)
