Boss OD-1 Cap Question

Just finished putting together the OD-1 from Marty's Gallery and all is good except that it calls for 2 1u caps, luckily I have 2 but theres no way in the world that something that size is gonna fit on the board lol.  Any easy workarounds?  The 2 that I have would happily take 8 holes each, by bending them enough to fit in the 4 allocated they obscure loads and just look quite mad!  Could I use electro caps as I have several 1uf and they are tiny, would it matter and any ideas on orientation?

Thanks all,

Cheers,

You could use electrolytics if you wanted. Also, you could just extend the layout just a little bit toward the right (reading left to right) to fit them in: you'd just have some leftover space.

Concerning the electrolytics --> Orientation matters!

For C5 (above the opamp, and reading left to right), the positive end is pointing to the left, with the negative end connecting in the hole right next to R10 (4k7).
For C7 (bottom right-hand corner near the output), same orientation as above: positive pointing left, negative pointing toward the output, connecting to the left of the 100k R14 that is going to ground.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that.  Unfortunately I already cut the board to size and had'nt thought about the cap size. : /

Thanks for the cap info all.

Build is complete.  Without the OPA2134PA in the socket I have good reading on the trannies, when I put the chip in the 9 volt rapidly descends whilst the chip gets hotter.  (IC is seated correctly).

Re-checked the resistors and caps and checked for shorts on the board,

Any ideas?

Sorry that you're having trouble, I happen to have some "smallish" 1uf caps, so thats
the space I saved for them !
Check your trace "cuts" theres 29 of them ! ( tiny slivers of copper will make a connection BTW )
Sounds like 9v getting where it shouldnt, there's a trace cut each side of pin 8 ....

Thanks Marty,  am i right in that there's a jumper and resistor that go kinda diagonally or have i misread it?

MartyMart

Yup that's correct, it's probably an easy fix, I just didn't want to re-draw it !!
One or two part "moves" will solve it, but it does work :D

Thanks Marty for your help on this one, got it going and it sounds really nice.  My (daft!) problem was I used a OPA134PA, not noticing the lack of the '2'.

Trying a load of different trannies, caps and chips in there and generally playing around with it.  But very nice, thanks :)
