Build yourself a bass paralooper -- lets you blend the clean bass signal with an effected loop, so you could work that UF in and be sure to get all the full bassiness too -- plus, you can use that same pedal to give you access to bunches of other guitar pedals.

But in general, it seems like the immediate answer is always "change the input cap..." and there are tons of threads that discuss values, etc.

I use a UF with my guitar -- I'd love to hear your opinion of it with bass...I'm currently putting an expression pedal on the frequency knob so I can use it like a theramin real-time :-)...some day I want to have expression pedals on that and the Sensitivity pot, and a stomp to jump it up in to the self-oscillating range...I love that pedal!
