What died on my wah?

I was wondering if anyone might have an insight into my wah problem.  I bought a dead Morley with the intention of replacing the circuit with a new one... and then I realized that it uses the LED/LDR combo instead of a wah-pot.  I'm starting to doubt my ability to turn it into something completely new, and I'd be satisfied with replacing the part(s) that went bad.

The thing allows the signal through on bypass, but not when engaged.  The LEDs turn on when I use an AC adapter, but not when I use a battery.  I've tried to measure the LDR in the dark.... and I'd guess that it's working correctly. The rest of the circuit involves a TL071CP op amp, a few caps and resistors, and a 1N4003 diode.

I'd like to think that most likely the chip has fried (and maybe the battery snaps aren't connected...), and that all I'd have to do is buy a 741-style op-amp from radioshack and the thing will work.  Does this sound right?  Or is it more likely the caps?  Any thoughts on this?

If more information would help, let me know.

Grab the schematic from Morely's site. Then read the "What to do when it doesn't work" sticky then report back.

My, my, how embarassing!  The wah pedal, which I bought really cheap, actually works after all!  It turns out that the bottom plate was actually shorting out the signal.  I just put electrical tape over the jacks and the switch, and now I've got a working wah pedal.

Yay!  I've always wanted a wah!

So I can join the crowd. I too have a broken morley wah. where did you find this article? I have checked the invdividual components and everything seems to work. Hopefully this artice will shed some light. Thanks
