Hi everyone.

I have spent a while trying to fix my excuse of an attempt of building the RAT pedal from tonepad, along with their OFFBOARD WIRING 3 and the MILLENIUM 2 from GEO.
So far I have got both LEDs working and the volume works fine. It is the FILTER and DISTORTION that I can't get to work.
I can tell you that I used a 2N5459 transistor instead of the 2N5458, and a 741 instead of the 308 OPAMP.
I don't have acces to a multimeter so I cannot give you readings.
I'm not sure if this is a common problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Build the DIY Audio Probe at GEO. The link is at the top of the page. Once you're there it's under the "Tech Tips" section on the left hand side of the page.

Not having access to a multimeter is an enormous handicap. If you manage to get things running without one, it's mainly by good luck.

Using an audio probe will tell you which stage is not passing audio, but almost nothing about what is wrong in the stage.

Get a multimeter somehow - buy or borrow. If you can't do this, you're left with only luck or massive rebuilding, which is another form of luck.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Yes, you should not approach this hobby without a multimeter. You really do need it.

Well I'll have to use the school's on Monday.

I'll keep you informed.

Thanks
